Antioxidant activity of Camellia sinensis leaves

All beneficial effects of tea have been attributed to the strong anti-oxidative activity due to phenolic compounds catechins which protect the body from damage caused by free radical-induced oxidative stress (Jang et al., 2007). Carotenoids, flavonoids, cinnamic acids, benzoic acids, folic acid, ascorbic acid, tocopherols, tocotrienols are some of the antioxidants produced by the plant for thei...

Study of the Glycosylated Secondary Metabolites in Tea (Camellia Sinensis L.) Using UHPLC/Q-TOF/MS

Glycosylation is widely involved in a series of biological events in plants and are believed to be beneficial to human health, but studies on this biological process are limited mainly due to the unavailability of a powerful analytical approach to identify the abundant and diverse glycosylated metabolites in plants. This application note describes a nontarget modification-specific metabolomics ...

Subcellular Localization of Galloylated Catechins in Tea Plants [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze] Assessed via Immunohistochemistry

Galloylated catechins, as the main secondary metabolites in the tea plant, including (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate and (-)-epicatechin-3-gallate, comprise approximately three-quarters of all the tea plant catechins and have stronger effects than non-galloylated catechins, both on the product quality in tea processing and the pharmacological efficacy to human beings. The subcellular localizatio...

Antimicrobial and Antitumor Activities of Seed Extracts of Camellia sinensis L

Antimicrobial and antitumor activities of Camellia sinensis L seed extracts were investigated. Seed extracts showed antifungal activities against Candida albicans IFO 1594 and Cryptococcus neoformans. Inhibition zone of 20 mm was shown by 70% ethanol extract against C. albicans IFO 1594 at 100 mg/mL. Antifungal activity of seed extract was not decreased by heating at 80 and 100C for 30 min or a...

Polyphenols as potential indicators for drought tolerance in tea (Camellia sinensis L.).

Plant polyphenols have gained prominence in quality of plant products and in human health. An experiment was conducted to determine the association of tea polyphenols with water stress and their suitability as indicators for drought tolerance. The experiment was conducted in a 'rain-out' shelter, and consisted of six tea clones (BBK 35, TRFK 6/8, TRFK 76/1, TRFK 395/2, TRFK 31/30, and TRFK 311/...
